On what Robert Gardos (AUT) and Daniel Habesohn (AUT) changed after losing first game 11-3: |
---|
”I think they adapted their receive a lot, so it was hard to take the lead in the points. After that we didn’t find a solution to keep a good service and it was very difficult.” On experienced opponents Gardos and Habesohn, who made it into their fifth European championships doubles final: ”They adapt a lot because they’ve got a lot of experience, so they know how to not panic when we win 11-3 in the first set. They stay calm and I think this experience helped them to win.” On winning bronze: ”In the first Europeans for both it is amazing to get a medal so we are happy but now it is a little bit sad." |
On losing after winning the first game 11-3: |
”We played amazingly in the first set. After that it was a little bit difficult. They received better and better and it got more difficult for us.” On playing Robert Gardos (AUT) and Daniel Habesohn (AUT), who have played internationally since before they we’re born: ”Both players are amazing. Robert Gardos has played for 20 years (internationally) and he’s got an amazing experience. He played very good.” On winning a bronze medal in their first European championships: ”We are very happy. Just now we are a little bit sad because we just lost but we are happy about the tournament and to win a medal here is amazing for us.” |
On being in his fifth European championships doubles final with partner Daniel Habesohn (AUT): |
”If you win, it’s amazing, if you lose it is the opposite. Right now it’s nice, we are closer to our goal. You always want to win. We are happy to beat them, to play a very good tournament until now, and we will see. If you play a final you want to win. You don’t play the finals just for fun. We will try it, we will prepare it and that’s why nothing is done until now.” On whether they felt in control of the match against Félix Lebrun (FRA) and Alexis Lebrun (FRA) in the second game, having lost the first game 11-3: ”No, if you don’t focus 100 per cent it can go very, very fast against them. If you don’t play with a really high quality they go everything over the ball and they go very fast so they could kill us. ”We had to keep a really high concentration and high quality balls so that they really couldn’t make this fast game. I think this was the key. If you just lose a little bit of quality they can punish you in two seconds.” On potential gold medal match opponents Mattias Falck (SWE) and Kristian Karlsson (SWE), who face Jon Persson (SWE) and Anton Källberg (SWE) in the second semifinal: ”We don’t have to forget that they are the world champions so they will also come in with a bigger pride into this tournament. It is not easy to have a world and European title in the same year, that’s why I think they are very motivated. If they play and win the semifinal they will for sure give 100 per cent. We will give our 100 per cent and then we will see.” |
On what he and doubles partner Robert Gardos (AUT) decided to do after losing the first game 11-3: |
"To play better. They (opponents Félix Lebrun, FRA, and Alexis Lebrun, FRA) were rushing really fast. We were not even ready in receive sometimes because they were going ot the table already serving, and we were not really prepared sometimes. ”I said to ’Robbie’ (Gardos) that we have to make the game a little bit slower, to take our time, not that they force us, throw up (the ball) and we are not even ready. They also played good, they hit some good balls.” ”We changed our tactics, we changed our tempo and this was our main thing I think. That’s when they lost their rhythm a little bit and also made some easy mistakes and our quality was increasing over the duration of the match and I think this was the key.” On how badly he wants to win a third European championships doubles gold medal: ”Very badly. I said to Robbie before the competition, ’I want to have a third gold medal’. We were playing good in the past months, maybe even in the past half year. The last tournament was good and I felt that we can make it. ”We were increasing our levels in how we move in the doubles from the first round to now, each match has been better and better and I think that is a very good sign. ”I think in the final we can maybe even increase it, because we are a little bit used to this atmosphere as we’ve already played four finals and are maybe not that stiff, and maybe that’s an advantage. But the others will maybe want it even harder than we do because none of them have a European title but we are aiming for a positive balance in our finals.” On the prospect of playing world champions Mattias Falck (SWE) and Kristian Karlsson (SWE in the gold medal match: ”We played them many times and know each other well. The other pair (semifinal opponents Jon Persson, SWE, and Anton Källberg, SWE) we don’t know, so we will see.” ”It’s always a really close match. It’s always 4-3, 3-2, so it will be tough (should they win the semifinal).” |
