Unit Reports

On losing to María Xiao (ESP) and Adina Mihaela Daconu (ROU):
"It’s just unlucky that we weren’t able to play our best. We should’ve maybe have played better tactics but at the end, the others were better."
On what made her and Adina Mihaela Diaconu (ROU) win:
”I think we played very good tactically and we knew that they were the favourites, so we just went to the table to fight and tried to win one or two sets.
"We prepared a little bit for the match, so we knew that our game would maybe be difficult for them. We just followed the tactics and playing the right tactics gave us confidence.”

On their tactics:
"We were trying not to let them spin first, because it would be difficult for us to block. So to keep the ball short, short, was very important for us – and to attack first.”

On playing together with Diaconu:
”It is the first time that we play together. We wanted to try to see if we could play together. If It would work I think we would be playing good and maybe we will keep playing together in the future.”

On Thursday’s semifinal:
”I just want to fight and enjoy table tennis. My goal was to bring a medal to Spain and I think that for now I am satisfied. Of course we always want more but tomorrow will just be relaxed matches for me.”

On semifinal opponents Sofia Polcanova (AUT) and Bernadette Szőcs (ROU):
"It will be a very, very tough match. We practised together and we weren’t even close. I don’t know what to expect."

On what made them lose to María Xiao (ESP) and Adina Mihaela Daconu (ROU):
"They just made less mistakes, they played more balls on the table. Maybe we sometimes took too much risks but in the wrong moments and if it would’ve been possible, maybe we were a bit passive. I think we sometimes just made some wrong decisions whereas they also didn’t make any easy mistakes.
"I think we were well-prepared before the match. We were just not playing the way we wanted to play and that was the biggest point."
On making it to semifinal:
"It’s my first semifinal in a senior European championships so I will enjoy it as much as I can. Today we made an amazing match and I hope that we can do that tomorrow too. They (semifinal opponents Sofia Polcanova, AUT, and Bernadette Szőcs, ROU) also play a very good double, and have done that before too. For us it is our first European championships and it works quite well so I am very happy about it.
"We are the surprise of this competition."
On her and doubles partner Bernadette Szőcs (ROU) missing last year:
"We didn’t play together last year because I had two injuries. I am very happy that ’Berni’ waited for me, that we could play together."

On their teamwork:
"Our characters are different, but this is also good for doubles. When I am too calm, she pushes me, and she is too angry I can calm her. So I think this is also very good."
