Unit Reports

On her thoughts as the Swedish pair had two match points in the fourth game:
"It’s always difficult to play the first match but we were just focused on ball on ball. Last time (at the 2020 European Table Tennis Championships last year, where Qiu and Mittelham won gold), I think in the second round we were down 0-2 (in games) and came back and we won, so maybe it is a sign that the first match wasn’t the easiest one and it only can get better."
On turning around two match points in the fourth game to win the match 3-2:
"The first match at every tournament is very difficult. Especially if you play against Truls Möregårdh, they (Möregårdh and Linda Bergström, SWE) are playing really well, very dangerous. We don’t need to say a lot about Truls, everyone knows who he is. So it was very tough for us to get a good rhythm in the start so we are very happy that we managed to win."
On losing despite having two match points in the fourth set:
"There’s a lot of frustration. We’ve got the whole game there at 2-1, 10-8 and I think I make some poor decisions in those balls that come after that. They’re doing it well but it feels like everything just turns around in one or two hits. It can go so quickly. We still play very good but it’s hard to see it like that right now."

On pushing the European champions to a fifth set:
"It’s still a big step forward from yesterday. Now we’re playing as well as we know we can do. But of course it’s incredibly sad to leave with a defeat when we feel that we’ve got the whole match."
On losing the fifth game 11-3 after having had two match points in game four:
"They (opponents Dang Qiu and Nina Mittelham, GER) obviously get a lot of strength, having turned two match points around, playing fantastically well the four last balls (of game four). Then they open well (in game five) and we are a little weaker.
"Of course it’s a bit hard to come into a fifth set after that. It’s tough. I don’t know if one could say that we could’ve done it any other way there when we had the lead. I think we did it well, they just did it better. It was a very tough defeat."

On defending champions Qiu and Mittelham:
"They’re an incredibly good pair. They would’ve been a nightmare draw for all pairs who proceed from the preliminaries. So of course it’s a tough draw and for us to have 2-1 and 10-8 on them is a fantastic effort, considering how little we have played together."

On the importance of the match for qualifying for the International Table Tennis Federation World Tour as a mixed pair:
"This match was very important to be able to qualify with ranking so it’s tough getting the European champions here. We’ll have to go again.
"We haven’t played a lot of mixed doubles, I don’t know why but we haven’t tried to get into that many mixed doubles competitions, but we have to start doing that. It’s an Olympic event so we really should."
