Unit Reports

On being down 2-1, 9-2 in the fourth set but turning the match around to a 4-2 win:
”I think that I played better and better in the match and in the third and fourth set I played really well. Then I came out to the fifth set where Truls (opponent Truls Möregårdh, SWE) was extremely aggressive; very tough on the half-long balls and hit some really nice balls.
”All of a sudden it just ran away, but I felt that I just go ball by ball. He had a big lead and then he could miss some easy balls. All of a sudden it was 9-5 and then you have caught up, then there is not that much separating you so you take one ball at the time.”

On what goes through his mind when he finds the flow:
”Not much is happening at all. That’s what the flow is about; you are here and now. It is all about the next ball and you don’t think about the score or anything else. You’re just focused on what you have to do.”

On facing Dang Qiu (GER) in the semifinal:
”It’s been a while since I played him at an international tournament. I think I got beaten by him in Bundesliga in December last year as I had some problems with my body. But he’s gone fantastically well over the past year and really become a top player in the world, so it will be a tough match.
”He is a safe player so hopefully there will be a lot of beautiful ball duels with me as a winner in the end.”

On what he will do in the hours leading up to the semifinal:
”Recovery. Eat a bit of lunch, get an hour or so in bed and then get some help from my physio to soften the body up again ahead of next game. Then I’ll just come back to the hall and recharge the batteries.”

On his pre-match routine:
”At these competitions we haven’t really had any changing rooms where we get changed before the games so I have got changed in a toilet, I will probably continue with that, it has worked well so far.”
On being top-seeded but losing the quarterfinal to Mattias Falck (SWE):
”I’m super disappointed, obviously. It’s a really tough defeat. I’ve got a grip of the match but after 2-0, 3-0 he improves his play a huge amount. He serves better and receives better. When I get a little stressed I don’t have as good of a variation in my serves. It was tough.”

On leading 2-0, 3-0 before Falck turned it around to win the match:
I still think I made good decisions. He gave me very good balls up to 9-7. Perhaps I should’ve taken a time out but I still think I made the completely right decision in most balls. I did it OK but it was good of him to turn it around.

On missing out on a medal:
”It’s obviously sad, but I’ve got a couple of years ahead of me so I’ll probably manage to sort out a medal (at the European championships) at some point.”

On Falck:
”(He is) super good. He improves a lot after the first two sets where he made a lot of easy mistakes. Perhaps I got a bit chocked when he managed to bring himself up that much so fast.”
