Unit Reports

On the match:
"It's a great first match. It's actually really nice to get a half-even first match. It can be dangerous if it's too smooth because when it actually gets tough it's not that easy to just switch it on."

On how badly he and doubles partner Mattias Falck (SWE) want a first European championships title:
"We've got a world championships gold medal but we don't have an European championships gold medal so we are very hungry for getting that one too. We've got a couple of silvers and some bronzes but that gold medal would be nice to have on your CV when you are looking back, so of course we are fired-up.

"Since we started playing doubles, about 10 years ago, winning our first medals almost 10 years ago, of course we have been aiming to win gold. Our target here is gold and we are super ready for it and I think this first match was a good session."
On whether it feels different coming into a major tournament as world champions:
"I don't think so. Not when it comes to us or our feelings. Of course the last tournament was cool but now when it's the European championships we come in fired-up and focused from the start. All matches are tough these days and I think we do a good job."

On the match:
"I thought it was good. It was a tough first match and my first match of the tournament. You've practised a bit in the hall and not really felt the match atmosphere so it was nice.
"It's always good when you get a first match that is a bit more even so that you get into it. I think we do it well but I had a bit of a hard time with their left-handed serve, which made it a bit more even than we wanted. He's (opponent David Serdaroglu, AUT) got a good serve and I've played him in the singles too so I knew he had a good serve. But we do it well."

On the singles tournament:
"It will be a lot of fun. There are many very even players from Europe and a whole bunch of players who could end up winning, so it's all about reaching a good level, hoping that the shape is still there."
