Unit Reports

On the 3-2 win:
"Perhaps we didn’t always have the best play and the best rallies, but there was a lot of fighting and pushing for it and feelings on both sides. You could feel that this was an important game for both teams."

On winning their third consecutive match in a deciding game:
"When you know that you’ve won two tough games before, that gives you confidence to know that you can do it again. Now we manage to win the deciding set once again, so that would bring us a confidence if we’d be in a similar situation again."

On winning at least a bronze medal – his first at a major international competition:
"It feels pretty big, obviously, but we are obviously hungry for more. We are not happy with a bronze medal here.

On playing teammates Kristian Karlsson (SWE) and Mattias Falck (SWE) in the semifinal:
"Against Kristian and Mattias they’re obviously favourites and world champions, but they’ve got the pressure on them to win so we could just go out there and try to play as well as we have done before, and even better to give them a good fight."

On his team play with Jon Persson (SWE), with whom he had not played for about two years before the tournament:
"We know each other well, we’ve played a little bit with each other earlier. We know each other and know how we want to play and what kind of balls we’d want, we can follow each other well. We play aggressively and make it hard for the opponents, trying to decide the balls early. It’s worked quite well so far."
On winning their third consecutive doubles match 3-2:
"This time it was a little bit the opposite; we were ahead and they caught up. But we managed to close it in the end, which was nice.
"We are insanely happy to be in the semifinal, we weren’t ranked to be there and we’ve almost been knocked out two matches in a row. But we are there and it’s amazing.
"We’ve fought us through three doubles matches and won all three of them in a deciding game. But it’s an insanely nice feeling when you walk away with that kind of victory, even though it’s been a battle. We’ve really got to fight for it, but it’s incredibly nice."

On whether he and doubles partner Anton Källberg (SWE) had talked about finding more consistency in their matches:
"We’ve talked to each other about it but there’s not that much to do about it sometimes. We were down a lot in the first set, but we manage to win it. Then we were insanely good in the second set. Then we were up 4-1 (in the third set) but then they start playing well and we start to miss a little.
"It goes a little up and down in doubles. They take some chances when they are down too – they had to do something. So they were really going for it and got some really good hits in there for a bit."

On his previous European championships doubles merits:
"I’ve got one bronze medal from 2008, then I have been in some quarterfinals, so it is nice to take it (the medal) again. It’s not been that many years (laughing)."

On playing teammates Mattias Falck (SWE) and Kristian Karlsson (SWE) in the semifinal:
"It will be a lot of fun, an all-Swedish game. We will tease them a little bit tonight.
"Of course it would’ve been more fun if we’d been in different semifinals, there’s no question about that. But now it is what it is and we just have to face that."

On Falck and Karlsson:
"It is a very good doubles pair – they won the world championships white recently. It’ll be nice to go in to play them in the semifinal. It’ll just be a nice game and we will focus everything we can to win the game, but it will be tough."

On whether they have played in trainings:
"We have hardly ever played them because I’ve not really played doubles with Anton in two years. That’s perhaps good for us, we’ve kept it a secret."
