On winning gold: |

Rachele Barbieri – gold On winning a second title after gold in the Omnium on Monday: "I think it is something special for me after the silver medal in the team pursuit, where I think we did a great time. To win gold yesterday and another gold today is incredible.” On racing with Silvia Zanardi: “It was our first madison (together). We went up without fear, with nothing to lose and we tried to give it our best. This morning I said to Silvia, who was a bit worried: 'We really have nothing to lose, we have shown that we have good legs in all the races we have done, why not try until the end?' “Maybe we didn't expect it to go so well, but why not seize the moment? It was something special. “We understood each other without talking to each other, it was something incredible, and we showed that we had good legs until the very end. That was the most important and most beautiful thing, there was a lot of fellowship and affinity.” On race tactics and Denmark attacking: "We knew that Denmark would try to attack. They medalled at the Olympics thanks to that. It was difficult to manage, because until the last we didn't know, if they had taken the lap or not. Luckily they didn't gain the lap.” On their battle with Poland: “After the penultimate sprint I saw that the Poles, who at that moment we had to keep an eye on for the bronze medal, had lost a little ground. Then I said to myself: 'I have to go all out, I hope Silvia understands'. Silvia Zanardi – gold On the difference between an individual medal and a team medal after already taking silver in team pursuit and the points race: “For me personally, the team one has a stronger, bigger emotion and that's why I was a bit worried this morning. When you're running alone, if you make some mistake, you only hurt yourself. It's your fault and no one can blame you for anything, but here, together, you're still afraid of hurting the teammate you're running with. I wanted to do well to honour this jersey, the blue jersey, and also for Rachele who did well." On keeping Poland and Denmark at bay: “When I saw that there were eight laps to go and Rachele was in front, I said, 'come on, it's only two changes, I just have to do two laps of the quartet, two runs and we're done'. When there were three laps to go, Marco told me to slow down and wait for Rachele, so I did and I did the last lap really full throttle, because I didn't want the Poles who were behind us to catch me. I heard Rachele's scream which gave me that extra boost to give everything.” |

On winning silver |
Marion Borras (FRA) On the race: "It's really disappointing. We were one of the favourite teams for the title at the start. Personally I didn't feel good so I did what I could. "Luckily Clara (Copponi) saved us from the beginning to the end." On the future: "I hope we will come back stronger in Paris (world championships). Second and third is good, but we're always so close to the title." On their team: "There are four of us now training, with Valentine (Fortin), Victoire (Berteau), and Clara (Copponi). That gives us the experience and enables us to always put out the best team." Clara Copponi (FRA) On the race: "We decided to go for the sprints. "Marion said at the start of the day she didn't feel great, so from that moment we knew we wouldn't be able to take a lap. "It's our first madison that's worked out like this. We'll learn from our mistakes, we'll get better." On her emotions: "Disappointment. I'm not happy - maybe in a few hours I'll be happy - but for now, it's disappointment. It's bike racing." |

Amalie Dideriksen - bronze On how the race unfolded: “We got a bit behind in the beginning, but we know that our strength is in the end. Because we do a lot of road racing, we have quite a lot of endurance. On failing to gain a lap on the pack to take gold in the final 20 laps: “We really went for it in the end and I believe we could take the lap. Unfortunately the race was a little bit too short and we couldn’t make it round, but we’re happy to make it on the podium. We have World Championships (in October in Paris) coming up in a few months, so we’ll try again then.” On what’s up next: “I’ll do the road race on Sunday, so we’re staying in Munich for the rest of the week before we’re going to road racing with our teams. I’ll have a stage race in Holland coming up. “For sure this year my next big goal will be the World Championships on the track. I think we can come up with a strong end of the year. I still have plenty to build on, and I still have a lot of motivation left. This (medal) sure makes me hungry for more.” Julie Leth - bronze On their effort to gain a lap: “In the end we actually just wanted to race really hard and we went all-in. We had nothing to lose really. “We really believed we could get that lap, but we ended up in the traffic behind, which you always do. The race was a little bit too short for us.“ On winning bronze: “(We’re) happy to be on the podium and showing that we naever give up, which is one of our strengths: keep fighting and keep believing.” On having to change bikes during the race: “(We) didn’t get a great start. Then I needed a bike change because a rider hit me and my wheel got stuck, which gave Amalia a bit of a long pull. That for sure cost a bit of energy. |
