On their performance in qualifying:
“For us this is a time up to our standard. The goal was qualifying with the best four today. The track is very new and we have to learn how to ride it.

“We made a few mistakes today. We made a mistake coming from the start-block which cost us 0.2s and during the race we didn’t really ride flawless either. We hope to do better tomorrow.”

On their chances in the first round versus Denmark, who qualified second:

“The Danish team controlled their pace today and we raced blind today. Tomorrow we will see what we can do.”

On the different line up compared to last year’s world championships, when Italy won the title:

“Jonathan Milan and Filippo Ganna (who were part of the world championships team) will ride the road race here at Munich 2022.

“Not to have Ganna on the team, makes a big difference. He normally does three laps in front (on a 250m track), so now we have to find someone who can do four or five laps in front (on the 200m track in Munich).”
