On winning silver |
---|
"I always wish that we had a crystal ball that just before the race we knew what the result's going to be, because I get so nervous, and it's like 'why do I do this?' "And then when you know the result afterwards, which hopefully is a good result, you're on such a high and such a buzz that you wish you'd had that feeling beforehand." On continuing in the sport at the age of 52: "At the end of the day it's as long as you do your best and enjoy it, which is what I do, that's why I've kept going for as long as I have, that to me is the most important thing." |
On winning gold |
"It felt quite a challenging 200. It was actually quite quick, but it felt a bit of a slog. The crosswind robs a bit of your top speed. "So I'm really chuffed to have done it, and got another medal in the bag for the team." On a European best time: "I'm still doing it at this age (42), ridiculous, isn't it? Maybe it was the tailwind. "All I can do is paddle my best and try my hardest. I love training, so I work hard in the winter. If the times keep coming, brilliant, and if I can do my bit and it adds to the sport, and help encourage other people to come through, then hopefully I've done my bit as well." On sharing the podium with Jeanette Chippington (GBR): "I've learnt so much from her. She's been my roommate for all nine years. She's just incredible, and I owe her a huge amount." On a busy season: "It does feel like we've been racing for weeks, rather than just turning up to a competition and racing. It's been quite hard. "We're always keen to learn and see how we can perform. Having such a strong team as in the GB team we learn from each other and help each other. So when someone's tired, someone else is helping them raise their game." |
On winning bronze soon after the world championships |
"I had the same problems like the other athletes. What helped me was taking time at home instead of practising, to recover as best as possible after the stress of travelling such as the time zone change. Thankfully that worked." |
