"It's not bad, this racing, very hard race, strong athletes. I'm very happy and this year is finished now.

"I'm two - it's not one, but it's one to me."

On improving from sixth place at the recent world championships:
"In the world championships I'm sixth, it's not my best race. But we see in the next competition."

"The venue is an incredible place to be racing. The water quality's something else. And once you're into the race, the bucket drops and you go. I had no idea what happened. We have good fun, a class environment - what more can you ask for?"

On his plans for the future:
"My short-term plan is going down to the Bavarian Alps for a week's holiday and then we'll refresh, recharge, get back and get stuck in I guess. Holiday first."

On the atmosphere:
"It's really cool to be part of something bigger than just our canoeing event. Yesterday I was down at the Olympic stadium watching the mountain biking as well. It's really cool to feel a part of something bigger.

"Good food in the athlete tent as well."

"I'm very happy; I still can't believe it. I won the world championships, and now I won the European title. I'm enjoying every minute."

On the atmosphere at the championships:
"It's been amazing. The atmosphere here, but also in the city. We visited the other day and saw other sports.

"The regatta course is beautiful and it's been perfect."
