Phase Reports

On winning bronze
"I'm super happy. It was a hard race especially with the German (Jakob Thordsen) on my right side, but I managed to get him in the end and take the bronze medal."

On the race:
"We were fighting with the four of us for the medals. I did personally a really good race and it paid off. I'm completely satisfied."
On winning silver
"I compete in a lot of events these last weeks. In the world championships I compete in four events, this week another four events. It's a lot of races, a lot of pain in the water, a lot of sprints, a lot of kilometres on water.

"This year we want to improve different races, to try different competitions, and I'm happy because I'm making the podium in all competitions."

On his race strategy:
"We try to go different than the world championship and I think we do a great show to the sports lovers, to the canoeing family. I finish completely empty, no more energy, and this is important."

On preparing for the C1 5,000m later:
"We prepare in the training. This is not the secret, but this is what we do. We prepare every time the competition some months before, training hard, trying to do our best in the training camps and training sessions. I just come here to do my best and enjoy every regatta, every competition."
On winning gold
"I'm in very good form, both mentally and physically. These are my best races in this year. This is the work of the training programme which I do."

On the race:
"I felt I am strong, I am in very good form, and in the last 200m I went with my maximum speed. I didn't see anyone else. I just focused on myself, on my pace."
