On winning silver |
---|
"Before the race and during the race I thought it would come down to the last 150 metres. "During the race I tried to drop (Sebastian) Brendel a few times doing some burns, but unfortunately I couldn't do a fast enough pace throughout the race to tire him out. I knew if it came down to a sprint finish Brendel would have me." |
On winning bronze |
"It was a really tough paddle with the Spanish guy (Diego Romero), we kind of crashed into each other at some points. "I wish I could say that I let the two guys go (Sebastian Brendel, GER and Balasz Adolf, HUN) but I couldn't keep the pace." On what he has learned this season: "I definitely learned not to give up. "Until the very last metre you can catch a medal, and I was saying that to myself this year." |
On winning gold |
"I was quite happy with my 5k race, it was a tough battle with Hungary, Balasz Adolf, and at the finish the spectators were phenomenal. They pushed me to the last strokes and happy that I'm done with 5ks." On his sprint finish: "We had a good change, the Hungarian and me, and we could save some energy some times. I know he's a good guy in marathon, he likes the long distances, and I try to push the last 200 metres as hard as I can." |
