On men's boulder qualification |

On his performance: “I was a little bit unsatisfied. I left the last boulder pretty early before my time ran out because I had no fun, but it should be enough to be in the top 10 of my group.” On being the first athlete to compete: “It really good to see the crowd cheering. It always helps to have a good crowd who is cheering for you. In the semifinals and the final, they could help make a big difference.” |

On his performance: “Mixed feelings I would say. I fell on two boulders which I felt I shouldn’t be falling from anymore, especially on the second one. I was on the movement and my hand slipped and that was a heartbreaker. It made the round far harder than it should have been, especially mentally, but I got a really good top on boulder number four, and it should still be enough (to reach the semifinals).” On his aims for Munich 2022: “My form is really good. I’ve been training for both boulder and lead to not have a specialisation on a discipline. I feel in the shape that I can do well in both disciplines.” |

On his performance: “The finish in the first three boulders was quite good. In the second part, on the next boulder it was such a physical challenge I thought it would be good for me, but I couldn’t reach the top.” On the pressure of being Olympic champion: “We are halfway through the season, and it isn’t that bad. In the first comp it was much worse, but now I can manage it quite well.” On his condition: “One month ago, I wasn’t feeling very competitive because I was injured (finger), so it will be super-nice to be in the semis and final.” On competing in lead qualification on 11 August: “It is going to be weird because I haven’t competed in lead since the Olympics, so it is going to be weird to see how fit I am for competing in it again.” |

On his performance: “I’m actually a bit surprised because I didn’t have the best round. I was struggling quite a bit because I got Covid last week and was breathing heavily. It turned out to be way better than I thought." On how Covid affected his preparation: “I didn’t train, I had two training sessions where I did a little bit to get my body back into shape. I had one last good session two days ago in Innsbruck which felt quite good, but I was already pretty sure I would not be in my best condition with breathing and endurance but it turned out well.” On how close he came to withdrawing: “It was pretty close. I got my negative test just a few days before the comp, so I was quite nervous the last couple of weeks, but it was hard.” On his current condition: “The only thing I’m not confident about is my endurance, which is more important in endurance, but my boulder shape is the best I’ve been this year.” |

On his performance: “I started pretty well and the first three blocks I got to the top pretty quick. Then the heat got to me, and it felt like the temperature shot up when I moved to the next two boulders, but I’m happy with I am and there’s two more rounds so I’ll save the good stuff till then. On his condition: “Best shape of my life. In training since coming back from the World Cups I’ve had a little rest and since then I’ve reached a new level.” |
