Phase Reports

On his race and taking gold:
"I tried to start very well. It was a very good race, I pushed very hard since the beginning. And finally, I was able to take this incredible gold medal."
On his race and taking silver:
"The war made it difficult for us to have possibilities of good trainings before these European Championships. Training has been really hard for me. This is why this is the best result I could have in this competition."
On his race
"Seven out of 10. I definitely blew too far away from the line. Don't go too early, would be my advice.

"The conditions at the top end of the course are actually a lot better than at this end of the course (the finish), you could really attack the speed. Once you got through the 1,250 (metre mark) you could really feel the headwind come up and it took the boat speed down.

"With people like Giacomo (Perini, ITA) in the event who've got a little more muscle power in certain places, I've got to take it on because if I let them go away I'd never catch them up."

On his competition:
"Roman (Polianskyi, UKR) is still up there, he's second on the podiumm and he's still double Paralympic champion and multiple world champion. To give him that kind of race I was really enjoying it. I could still see his stern in the corner of my eyes. That's why I gave it that push, but I probably went too early, and just completely blew.

"What is great now is that there's five people that are fighting for three medals. We've never had that in the field before."

On gold medallist Giacomo Perini:
"It's obvious to everyone that the classification has got a variety of disabilities in it. Perini is one of those with different disabilities that we've got.

"Whilst there is a little rumbling in the background, we've got to race what's put in front of us as athletes. It's not his fault he's been put in this category. We've got to race the people that are in this category, and put our heads together and see how we can beat him. It's obvious that in a headwind if you've got more musculature you can be more efficient, but we've got to try and find a way to take him on."
