On winning bronze |

"I'm very satisfied, very happy about the race. I have a tactic: I wanted in the first half to be close to the leading group, and then after that I start my final early in the second half. In the last 250 (metres) I give all. So my strategy was working." On if he knew where he was in relation to his competitors: "I watch them many times through the distance. I tried to be as much close to them as possible without dying too early. In the last 500 (metres) I start to push, and the last 250 I start to push like crazy until the end. I say whatever, fourth, fifth, doesn't matter. "I see first the GB (Graeme Thomas, GBR), I passed him. I see Ollie (Oliver Zeidler, GER), I think he stopped. I immediately push again more. And that's it, I finished third. It was amazing." On his aim for the regatta: "I was thinking it (a medal) was possible, but I don't have big expectation to push for a medal in any case, because I start the season like this. I wanted a medal in Belgrade (at World Cup I), I didn't get it, and I was disappointed. "I said take it easy, have fun, train good, and whatever happens as long as I give all of myself in the race, I'm happy. And things started to work." |

On the race, and finishing fourth |
"It was a crazy race. Until the 1,500 metres it was strict, I just stick to the plan. Then I feel stronger winds came in and just destroyed the plan to collect a bit of power 40 for the sprint at the end. Then I just couldn't stand the last 20 strokes, I just blew up and there was nothing more possible. "I did everything on the course today, there was nothing to say against the tactic or something like that. I fired to the end and in the end the others were better." On whether he felt pressure to perform, as it was a home championships: "I don't think so. I just wanted to have a good race here, and to give my best, and I did. In the end I'm a bit disappointed that I couldn't win a medal here, but that's sport. Sometimes others are better." On the world championships next month: "There's a good goal for me to just stand the last 200. It will be a good race I think. Hopefully I will become a bit better, and then we will see what's the result then." On his feelings: "I'm feeling a bit sick, I have a headache and still a lot of lactic acid in me. It's hard at the moment, and of course the disappointment does the rest." |

On winning silver |
"It was a very tough race, with the best opponents from all the world. With these conditions, not in a tailwind but a headwind, so it's a little difficult for me. I'm 85 kilos and I try to race these monsters side by side." On Greek sculling success: "We're working very hard with my coach Giovanni Postiglione and the other coaches, we try to be every time in a good shape and we work every day in tough conditions to be ready for the race." On the impact of winning gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games: "I hope that we grow up more people in Greece, because rowing in Greece is not too much like football and basketball. We must create more athletes in rowing to inspire them to be in this sport because it's a beautiful sport." |

On winning gold |
"So much happened in one race. Everyone took the lead for one time. "In the second part, at 1,500 (metres) to the (1)k I thought just going to try t, fly or die and see what happens. It worked quite well." On his expectations before the event: "I never really focus on the result, just on my own progress. After every race I try to improve something, just do my best race in the final and not think about the medals, only my own race and the things I can work on." On rowing in the single: "It's all your own responsibility, so when you make a mistake it's your own fault. That's the part of the single I really like. If you're not good enough then it's your own fault, and that's really cool." On Karolin Florijn (NED) winning the women's single sculls: "I saw her leading at 1,250 (metres) by quite a margin, so I already thought she would win. It's cool that we both took the gold medal. "She really motivates me with her results. We do the trials together always, and we can see the percentage of world best times comparing to each other, so she really motivates me how good she's doing as well as the rest of the team." |
