Phase Reports

On having to race the repechage
"It was a bit rough, a rough start for us. We've not been together so long now, so just for three weeks or something.

"Especially with the conditions this morning it was really tough. This afternoon was a bit more relaxed."

On rowing in this crew:
"For me, last time I was in a quad was actually at the last (multisport) European championships in Glasgow, so four years ago. This year I was coming back from finishing my studies so I had to really step up my training schedule the last two months.

"I'm enjoying it. Also this crew's really nice to work with. We're all very eager. I'm hoping for more.

"We still need to figure out how to race together in a quad. Simon (van Dorp, NED) for instance came from sweep rowing. Jan (van der Bij, NED) and Finn (Florijn, NED) have been sculling longer. As a group you really have to figure things out - how do you set a rhythm, how do you set a pace?"

On the next steps:
"Our focus is on the world championships. We're doing this as a practice run to see where we stand. We will analyse now, talk with the coaches.

"We were really happy with the result this afternoon, so hopefully we can continue that going forwards."
