Phase Reports

On the race
"It's hard, very windy. It suited us quite well. We got out the start slow but we knew because of the headwind we had to be a bit more patient with it. Got out quite cleanly, settled into quite a strong rhythm.

"We were sitting a bit further down on the field than we maybe would have liked for that first 500 (metres) but we know we're not the fastest starting boat, so we just relied on our rhythm, kept moving, kept tracking it through and started to clear through a couple of the other boats in the middle k (kilometre) which we rely on with our big rhythm.

"We started moving out, started dropping some of the field behind us which was good. Got a little bit frantic in the last 500. We were quite clear of the opposition in our near lanes, but the Poles and the Swiss were doing a really good job having quite a tough battle right on the far side. Quite a few of us were unsure where they were.

"So we started getting a little bit shaky, but we managed to hold on to it, keep our cool.

"This was the first time we've raced in a headwind as a crew. It was a little bit just getting used to the conditions, a little bit first-race nerves. There's definitely a lot to work on, more speed to find, which is good."

On the squad atmosphere:
"Everyone's really supportive of each other, really encouraging. We just have a really good environment going on at the moment amongst the athletes and the coaches. We all know we've come to do a job, we're fortunate that the hard work we've put on on the men's and women's side throughout the winter it's starting to show throughout the World Cup series and Henley (Royal Regatta), we've done some very good results from both of the squads.

"It's just taking and riding that positivity, keep pushing it through to the finals on the weekend and then through to the world championships in the Czech Republic."
