On winning gold ahead of Spain |
---|
Valent Sinkovic (CRO) On Spain: "We knew before the race they would be tough. Maybe they surprised us the first 1,000 (metres), we thought we would be in front a little bit. "We were going good in that part of the race - maybe they were a little bit in front, but we were going good in rhythm. I said to my brother (Martin Sinkovic, CRO) we will stay in that rhythm and let's see what will happen. After 1,000 metres we started to get in front of them and we knew we would probably beat them." On their strength: "It's not always more muscle that wins. You need to be smart." On it being six years since their last European title in this boat class: "It seems a long time ago. When I think about it, it's not that long time. It doesn't feel to me that long, but apparently it is." Martin Sinkovic (CRO) On the win: “Tired but very happy. We did a great race, Spain and Lithuania gave us really hard time, but we did it.” |

On winning silver |
Aleix Garol Garcia Pujolar (ESP) On their medal: "We fought for the win. We are a bit lightweight, so it was hard for us. The course is nice, we like the race course and we enjoy a lot the race." On racing Martin and Valent Sinkovic (CRO): "They are our heroes for us, since we are so young watching them here. It was a dream to beat them. We are training so hard day by day to do that, and we are so happy because we are near. "We think in the world championships in Racice we will be able to beat them, or be more near." Rodrigo Conde Romero (ESP) On what it will take to beat the Sinkovic brothers: "We need more training, more speed in the middle of the race. Training hard and a little more." |
|
On winning bronze |
“Because of weather conditions there was no same stroke at the time. We focused on strokes one by one. "This medal means so much to us because we didn't qualify for the quad (quadruple scull) for major competition, but we came here, worked well together in a double, and got medals today.” |
