Rowing - LWT Women's Double Sculls Final A Results

Olympic Regatta Centre  - 14 Aug - 12:43

Phase Reports

On the race:
"The plan was definitely just to go out there and put together a really confident and bold race in the conditions. And really show that we're really strong.

"There's so many people in the grandstands and I think the multi-sport event it means there's so much excitement around the city and it was really special today."

On being separated from Emily Craig (GBR) for a big part of the year:
"This year I've been doing my medical studies in Cambridge and Emily (Craig) went and worked in an auction house for an early part of this year, so we've had a bit of a different run into the racing season.

"This is the kind of thing that made the most sense – to race in the singles in Lucerne (at the 2022 Rowing World Cup III) – and see how things played out after that, but for a first race back in the doubles that was pretty awesome."

On the advantages of having done other things than rowing this year:
"I think it's been a massive part of us improving as individuals this year. Improvements don't just have to come on the water, I think they can come off the water as well. Both of us like to be busy and to have other things in our lives, I think that really enriches the sport that we do and we are both really grateful to have been able to do that because it's not always an opportunity that is afforded to all high-performance athletes."
On how she and teammate Imogen Grant (GBR) have improved since last year:
"I think we were different women than we were last year. We are stronger, more rounded, happier women with a lot to prove."

On spending some time away from the sport:
"For me it really made it a choice to come back. The decision came quite naturally rather than being forced before I was ready and I am grateful that when I came back it felt like completely the right thing to do and I was so happy to be back. If I hadn't had that time to miss it and to go away and be someone different it would've been a much harder transition to this season."

On teammate Maddie Arlett (GBR), who had to withdraw from the lightweight women's single sculls on medical grounds:
"Maddie has played a huge part in this project. We are so gutted that she wasn't in a place to be able to race this weekend because we know she is a fantastic athlete. She probably would have absolutely 'sent it' (performed well)."
On winning silver
Claire Bové (FRA)

On the race:
"We knew we were in front (of Italy). I was a bit distracted, I heard the wind coming from the side, and the boat slowed down a bit. I saw the other boats hadn't slowed down much, and I said to myself we mustn't let go, really we mustn't let go. We didn't let go. I'm proud of us."

Laura Tarantola (FRA)

On the medal:
"We are very happy about the result and about the race because it was difficult the last three days. We are going to rest a little and after that come back to training for the world championships."
On winning bronze
Federica Cesarini (ITA)

"No particular strategy, because there was a harsh wind and we could only push, push, push hard."
