On winning by an 0.8s margin: |

“It went pretty well. We were already faster than yesterday in the first round today, and in the final we were faster again. “We had quite some time between the races, so we could look at the footage. The changeups were not perfect, but we could look and analyse.” On is this was the perfect race? “Almost, but there’s always something you can do better.” On if their winning time (34.639s) is a world record: “I don’t think times on a 200m track count as world records, but they start keeping track of it, this time will stand for quite a while.” On the strength of their rivals: “It’s difficult to compare these times (with rimes on a 250m track), but for me it’s great to see that we’re still far ahead. But France will be good on their home track (at the world championships in October) and Australia will go fast too.” On the line-up: “It’s great to ride in the same line-up (as the golden team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games last year). I’m next to Roy (Van den Berg) and I just have to follow, and then I know Jeffrey (Hoogland) will finish it off.” |

On winning silver |
"The final wasn't very good. We have a starter who is very young, he doesn't have a lot of experience; physically he is very strong but he's still struggling to manage the big events. So he slightly messed up his start and that put us in a bit of difficulty in the final. "We still went fast and we have lots of things to improve, and we can get closer to beating 35 seconds. We didn't do that, but we will in the future." On his emotions: "It's a beautiful medal, but I'm still struggling with finishing behind the Dutch. We're making gradual progress and we're thinking about being more consistent. "I hope we can improve and be successful at the world championships in Paris." |
