On the wet and muddy conditions: |

“It was extremely hard today. The ground became extremely deep because of the rain. When we looked at the track a couple days ago, we thought it would be an easy course because 85 percent of course was just grass. That’s what made it so hard, if it was just dirt it wouldn’t change that much. It became extremely physical and extremely hard. Every meter you had to push everything you could." On her race: "For me it was fighting for the bronze and she (bronze medal winner Anne Terpstra, NED) got a gap of ten seconds and then it stayed like that until the end.” On Munich 2022: “It’s been great and brilliant for all the sports that have been here, for people to know that all these events and sports are happening over this week, it’s been fantastic. I think here it’s been a continuation of Glasgow four years ago.” On next week’s world championships: “My main goal is just aiming to recover as quickly as I can, but I’m looking forward for next week and having a good fight.” |
On the course: |
“The course was pretty different from the other ones, but I liked it. The conditions made it pretty slippery but I think it made it more fun.” On if she likes wet and muddy conditions: “Not always. On this course it was quite fun. Luckily there wasn’t more rain so we could manage to ride most of the time and that was good.” On if she enjoyed riding on home soil: “Yes, of course. I’m only an hour from home, so that’s why I decided to race even though I had covid until last week. I really suffered with fever, but I said I’m racing at home, I have to go.” |
On her race: |
“The most important today were the circumstances. It was a bit different than the men’s race yesterday. We had a lot of mud. I started well at the very beginning. I wanted to position well, because I wasn’t really sure what the course would look like. I had to just get used to the feeling of the mud. “We couldn’t really train in these circumstances the past days, and I just needed the first lap to kind of get the feeling with the ground. Once I got my confidence, it got better and I could really ride back and do the race. “I struggled a little bit, but in the end technically I was actually very good and I could make the difference in the uphill, so I’m super happy about that.” On the wet and muddy conditions: “Normally I’m not the best in the mud, I’d rather have warm and dusty conditions. But I’ve been working a lot to be able to have the skills it takes to ride well in the wet, and today has shown that my skills are improving.” On next week’s world championships: “I’m happy with my shape. I had a lot of focus on the World Cups last week and after the World Championships, we have the final World Cup of the year, which is an important race for me. So this block has a lot of big races and with third place (in the European Championships) I think I showed that I’m one of the contenders for the top positions.” On Munich 2022: “I live two hours away from here so it’s basically a home race, and the whole event is like a mini Olympics so the atmosphere has been brilliant.” |
On her race: |
“I had a good start. We went to the start with Loana (Lecomte, FRA) so we were together. We could make a small gap towards the second group, so we kept pushing. I just tried to go away and it works. After that I had a mechanical problem.” On her chain coming off halfway through the race: “My chain was out and it was impossible to fix it. It took quite a lot of time. I thought I would never make it, but yeah, Loana passed me. I had a one minute gap (behind Lecomte), so I tried to close the gap, but I think it was impossible.” On teammate Loana Lecomte taking gold: “I’m really happy for Loana, because I think she deserves it and she’s really good. Since two years, she’s dominating our sport, so I think she really deserves this title and I’m really happy with silver.” On the world championships next week: “I didn’t do everything this season, so I have to prepare for these two races. I’m really happy I could make it. For sure I’m feeling super good, and I know I will be feeling even better next week. It’s super good to see that finally all the hard work pays off.” |
On the wet and muddy conditions: |
“I’m very happy with the conditions in this race. I like every condition, but when the is rain, a lot of it. A lot of riders didn’t like this condition, everytime I favour to ride in the mud, because it’s funny and I like that." On the technical troubles for teammate Pauline Ferrand Prevot: “We had a good start with Pauline. She had a mechanical problem, and when she had this problem, she was a little bit in front of me, so I passed her. It’s a race, it’s mountainbike. Every race is different.” On the world championships next week: “I hope to be able to ride for the medals again. I did the work, I prepared well, so we will see.” |
