On competing on home soil:
“It’s really special for sure, but I said before that I have had a very long season that’s still going on and slowly but surely. It’s quite hard, I started my season in march. I had a very good and consistent season so I’m absolutely happy with the result here, but for sure it’s not super superb.”

On next week’s World Championships Mountain Bike in Les Gets, France:

“Having the long season, for me it’s about the consistency it’s not like I’m in the position like Tom Pidcock (GBR), where I can prepare for a few sports and they compete at the top level. But I’m happy when I can be consistent.”
On his race:
“I have no regrets. Tried to follow pidcock a bit when he attacked, but he was just too strong for us. Then the race it became for the second and I fight to go in the front in the last lap and to stay in the front to the line but Fini (Sebastian Fini Carstensen, DEN) was just a bit stronger than me. But I’m still happy with this medal.”

On the big Swiss contingent in the chase group behind Tom Pidcock (GBR):

“I paid a bit when I tried to follow Tom, then there were some Swiss people that I could follow, the pace was not too high, just right to recover a bit. That was super helpful for sure.”

World Championships:

“I’m going through a really good period and the confidence is up.”
On his silver medal:
“It’s like last year, I won the silver medal also.”

On the race:

“It was very tactical race. We were a big group in the front and I just tried to stay in front of the group, not to be stuck in the back of the small peloton. That was the main gameplan today, not to get stuck in the tight corners and in the end it worked out. The spot to attack before the finish line, was good. So I’m really happy.”

On riding for silver behind the Olympic Champion Tom Pidcock (GBR):

“When Tom attacked, obviously he’s super strong, and I tried not to go with him. I would rather finish second like now, and not blow myself up going with him. I’m really proud of the race I did, I kept calm and I was fighting for that silver medal for sure.

“I’m still super proud to finish behind the Olympic Champion. And to show that the shape is really good. With world champs next week we will see what will happen there after a great feeling.”

On the course:

“It’s not your typical mountain bike course. With the park they have here, I think they’ve built a great course. I was actually hoping for really muddy conditions. I think in the end it was great for the spectators and the course.”
On switching to mountain bike coming off a successful Tour de France:
“It wasn’t easy. I had kind of a week downtime, just riding my bike. Then I did a couple of weeks at altitude.

“To be honest, it’s been weird. (I felt) sensations I never felt before, a bit jaded, mentally tired. Still (I) got some good training in, and now coming down from altitude (I’m) feeling much more myself, so it wasn’t an easy straightforward process, but I think I did it quite well.”

On an early crash:

“I had a crash on the first corner, which was not ideal. But it felt a bit like a cross (cyclo-cross) race the first few laps. It was superfast and you couldn’t really move up very well. The climbs (it was) just backing up, not ideal.”

On attacking early (about halfway through the race):

“Maybe it was a little bit early. It’s quite hard out there on your own, but yeah the idea was just to try and make it hard for myself because next week is the big goal (World Championships Mountain Bike in Les Gets, France), so yeah, a good day and it was super nice to race in front of these crowds as well. The crowds were fantastic.”

On the World Road Road Racing Championships (Wollongong, Australia on 25 September):

“Switching back again, it’s not so bad. I had a pretty good base in the Tour (de France) and now a bit of high intensity, and then back on the road. Who knows, it’s going to be a long season, but I’m going to try my best to be in the top ten next week, and also in a month-and-a-half time.”
