This was a very special one, I absolutely love competing in Germany where sports, other than men's footbal, is lived in a very intense way. It's a great honour to be in such a packed venue where the Munich 1972 Olympics were held. I think this was a very positive season year for me - to be able to balance my academic life [Medicine degree] with my sports career - it is something I am proud of, and I feel like I am household name for those who want to pursue a dual career in sports. Because of that, I am super happy with 2022. This season is over now and I will start my holidays shortly, but will be back in 2023 - my goal is to graduate as a medical doctor, as well as to make it to the World Championships in Budapest - if possible.

I cannot complain, I gave everything and finished with a PB and this silver medal. Delivering like this in front of your home crowd, this stays forever in your memories. I hope that we were able to make the audience enthousiastic. I was wonderful to present ourselves strong like this in front of this home crowd. I have been very emotional the whole day and when I came into the stadium I got goose bumps. It was sooo different compared to Tokyo without spectators.

Getting this medal was definitely my aim. But that it worked out so well, who would have thought that? This was a beautiful competition and now both of us have medalled. The audience and all the celebrations carried us through with all the gold medals for Germany in decathlon and 100m. We really used that for ourselves!

I just won my sixth European title here at this beautiful stadium in front of this amazing crowds, so I am so happy and proud tonight and the competition was in Germany again, just like in 2018. I had to fight against the strong Germans again just like in Berlin and I struggled a bit as they were fighting so much and improving their PBs and SBs. But I knew I was ready to do it and I think the fight was nice. I am sorry for them that I destroyed their party but lets wait for the 2024 world championships. I am glad for the Germans that they managed to get silver and bronze and this competition was really on the level of the world championships. From all these medals, I think the most precious was the one in 2010 when I just came at the championships like a 19-year-old kid and won my first European major medal. At the time, I could not imagine that in 12 years, I would be still standing here with this medal, chasing my sixth gold. Germany is really good at sports culture and they were pushing me forward.
