Silver 2:49:10
This was a tough but tactical race because the Greek athlete also beat me at the world championships in Eugene, so I was not too concerned about the time but rather in getting a medal. The plan was to come out here, and fight for a medal. We knew we had to control the group - especially the Greek athlete, my direct competitor - and the goal was gold or silver. Of course my main goal was to fight for that gold medal, but once I started to feel tired, it really hit me that I might have to secure what I could. I am very pleased with the result, and to end my season as the second best in Europe as well as an incredible performance at worlds. We would have liked to win gold, but I am very happy with the silver, too.
Gold 2:47:00
It was a tactical race - the plan was to come here and win the gold medal, and we went for it because of the warm conditions as well as the slow pace - it all went according to plan. Around the halfway of the race, I felt that I had it, especially because the other athletes were falling behind. I know I am always strong in the last kilometres, but today, I also wanted to enjoy it whilst going at a fast pace. Because of the high temperatures, this was not the day to break records. There was a stretch with some shade, but, overall, I felt fine in these weather conditions. It was like back home in Greece, as much expected. I am not thinking about the world championships in Budapest just yet because I should be still racing the 20K on Saturday - I haven´t yet decided if I will compete though. I never did the 50K. In fact, I came up from the 20K, so the 35K suits me well and that is what I came here for.

It was an amazing race and winning this medal is great. Before the race, I was thinking about finishing 4th or 5th. I started with my own pace, like my coach told me to do.The last kilometres were a bit hard but to compete here in Munich, it was so amazing. I like the 35K, I tried it for the first time last year. The 50K was maybe a bit too long for me and the 20K was a bit too fast. The hot conditions were tough but the first 15K the weather was OK. Fortunately, there was a lot of shadow. Just the last 10K was a bit harder and I got problems with my stomach. Next year, the world championships is in Hungary so that is my main target and we will prepare for that. My target will be the top 8. I guess I will celebrate with a glass of Prosecco.
