Event Reports

Silver 17.04
I had two faults in the first two jumps so I made my life really difficult. I had to show a good jump, not pushing too much to avoid the three faults.
After the third jump, I knew I had a good chance to get a medal. I tried to push the full mode, and it came - this very special silver medal. I knew that the fault jumps were very far but it was just fault. I had to find the right place.
I had to push it until the end and the silver was the best perfomance I could have achieved tonight.
Gold 17.50
First of all, I want to say thanks to the Portuguese people for all the support. I am really happy with this gold medal, it looks easy, but it is not. This is the result of a lot of hard work. My dream is to continue to win more titles. It is just a coincidence, but Jonathan Edwards was my age when he jumped the World Record - he was 29 years old and so am I. My season isn't over yet, so I am going to keep trying to do a very good jump. This was a good title to win, and one I was looking forward to achieve, so I am very pleased with it. Actually, I wasn't that confident, and was hoping for a good first jump but that never happened. I'm glad the other guys didn't manage to jump any further, and made it easier for me - I felt more relaxed. 17.50 isn't great, I'm not too happy about it because I was aiming for much better than that. Overall, I couldn't be happier with a gold medal.
Bronze 16.94
I only managed one valid attempt, I am very frustrated about that. But still, I came to a European championship and I won a medal. I was not able to let go, I was very tense because this is a final. So my run-up was not very good. I really have to work on that. Yet, the only valid attempt, my third was so strong to give me a medal, this is still my mental strength. I feel a lot of joy at the moment, but I cannot seize what has happened. I need to get the medal and have it in my hand to realize that I came third.
