Men's Pommel Horse

On taking silver, Netherlands' first-ever European medal on the event:
"It feels so amazing, it's indescribable. But here I am, I won silver and it's amazing."

"This is historic, something that has never been done before by a Dutch gymnast. I think it hasn't sunk in yet. This is unbelievable and a very important medal for me, but also for Dutch gymnastics.

"I am very happy and very satisfied with my routine. I mean, it still is pommel horse: anything can happen. Especially under pressure. But I managed to stay on.

"I made some mistakes, because my hand slipped away at some point so I had to give an extra push there. But I kept going on. It's just unbelievable."

"I did the same routine as in qualifications. That's the routine I have trained for so long. That's why I was confident I could pull it off.

"I was calm and just did my thing and then won the silver medal. It's crazy."

"I don't know why, but I simply love the challenge that pommel horse brings. You never know if you can compete a perfect routine and if you manage to stay on the apparatus, that's what makes it so cool."

On having missed out on the 2021 European- and World final (he was the alternate for the final):
"It's hard to then keep your head straight and keep going on. But I trained so hard for this, I did routines almost every day. I knew I was prepared mentally and physically.

"Ever since missing out on the finals, I basically focused on routines and I think that did the trick. I never expected I would do about three routines per day., but I think it has pulled off now. It helped me to be on the podium today."

"To get the silver medal now is unbelievable."

On being close to the gold (0.033)
"Maybe if I didn't make the mistake I would have taken the gold medal. It's a pity, but I'm mostly just super proud and satisfied with today."

On taking bronze:
"I still can't believe it. It's amazing, I have no words for it.

"This is crazy. It's been a dream of mine ever since I was a little kid. That I managed to win a medal and made my dream come true is just simply amazing."

"I thought that I had some mistakes. It was a hard routine, I had to fight, fight, fight. I hoped it would be a good score."

On his routine:

"Actually, I have to say, I didn't think my routine was as good as the judges saw it, but that's more my own feeling. I had to press a lot - that's what I feel, and apparently judges don't always see it that way.

"It was a routine where I had to fight a lot. That's why I was a bit surprised by the final score."

"On the pommel horse you need a very good sense of balance and a few physical prerequisites. But I think I've always had a good sense of balance from a young age, always trained it for fun as well, balancing, started relatively early on the pommel horse. I think that's very important and that you also know how your body moves."

On competing in front of the home crowd:

"It was amazing, awesome. They pushed me really hard. I loved it out there."

On winning gold at the age of 38:
"I'm feeling great.

"I don't know how I'm doing it (at his age), but I'm always trying to stay in shape and I go for it. It pays off."
